Breathing:

Entry: equal expansion / listen
Oxygen: color -- FIO2 -- SpO2
CO2: trace -- ETCO2
Mechanics: Flow (FGF) -- Pressure -- Volume -- Rate -- Muscle (relaxant)

Description:

• After the airway  look at the chest. Is it expanding equally ? If not done recently you might want to listen.

• After chest, move to the operative field. Assess oxygenation. Is the blood red? Look at the FiO2 and see the resulting SpO2.

• Assess CO2 by looking at trace and end tidal.

• Knowing the oxygenation and CO2, one can optimise the mechanics of ventilation

Pressure Volume Rate
Muscle relaxant (think of the diaphragm to remember muscle relaxant)

Notes:

• When looking at operative field for color, you can also look for  bleeding / oozing.
