Breathing:
Entry: equal expansion / listen
Oxygen: color -- FIO2 -- SpO2
CO2: trace -- ETCO2
Mechanics: Flow (FGF) -- Pressure -- Volume -- Rate -- Muscle (relaxant)
Description:
After the airway look at the chest. Is it expanding equally ? If not done recently you might want to listen.
After chest, move to the operative field. Assess oxygenation. Is the blood red? Look at the FiO2 and see the resulting SpO2.
Assess CO2 by looking at trace and end tidal.
Knowing the oxygenation and CO2, one can optimise the mechanics of ventilation
Flow: (flow meters)
Pressure Volume Rate
Muscle relaxant (think of the diaphragm to remember muscle relaxant)
Notes:
When looking at operative field for color, you can also look for bleeding / oozing.
